Abstract <p>Armenia is a mountainous country with arid climate conditions located on the northern border of the subtropical climate zone. The average annual temperature and precipitation of the country are 6.2°C and 557 mm, respectively, over period 1991–2020. However, due to the mountainous terrain, air temperature and precipitation vary significantly depending on the region and altitude. The recent climate change significantly impacted the study region, leading to more frequent climate hazards. The paper analyses climate conditions and the most significant climate anomalies observed in Armenia in 2024, the warmest year in the world over the last 165 yr according to the global climate state report by the World Meteorological Organization. The average annual temperature in Armenia in 2024 was 7.2°C, which was 1.0°C higher than the climatological norm (1991–2020), while annual precipitation was 669 mm, which consisted of 120% of the norm. The most significant climate anomalies of 2024 were the extremely warm winter, extremely dry and warm April, while May and July were extremely wet when catastrophic flooding occurred, causing four deaths and significant damages.</p>
