Comparison of the Geochemical Characteristics of Cherts and Limestones from Uering Cape, Wrangel Island (Lower Carboniferous Complex, Northeast Russia)
摘要
The results of geochemical analysis of samples of cherts and limestones from a fragment of the Lower Carboniferous section of Uering Cape on Wrangel Island are presented. It is shown that not all the ratios used in the analysis of the conditions of formation of siliceous and carbonate rocks can be used in the interpretation. The hydrothermal influence on the formation of rocks is revealed unambiguously based on geochemical data. The biogenic/abiogenic origin of cherts and the presence of terrigenous impurities in limestones are also established unambiguously. However, the genesis of carbonate and siliceous rocks in terms of the lithological and stratigraphic characteristics does not coincide with the genesis established by the geochemical parameters. This is primarily due to the presence of a terrigenous impurity in limestones, which changes the characteristics of carbonate rocks.
