Identification and Expression Pattern Analysis of the PP2C Gene Family Response to Salt Stress in Tomato

Protein phosphatase 2C (PP2C) plays an important role in plant growth, development and response to environmental stress. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is an important vegetable worldwide and its yield and fruit quality were affected by the increasing soil secondary salinization. In this study, 100 PP2Cs were identified in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L) genome which were unevenly distributed on 11 chromosomes. The predicted results of subcellular localization indicated that most of SlPP2Cs might work in the nucleus. The 100 SlPP2Cs were divided into 12 subfamilies except SlPP2C30 based on phylogenetic relationships. The members of the same subfamily shared similar conserved motifs and 3-11-2-5-4-1-6-7 motifs exist in most of SlPP2C amino acid sequences. The analysis of gene structure showed that the number of introns contained in SlPP2Cs ranged from 1 to 19. The predicted results of transcriptional regulatory elements indicated that there was abundant hormone (including abscisic acid, jasmonic acid methyl ester, salicylic acid and gibberellin) response element, light response element and antioxidant response element in the promoters of the SlPP2Cs. The expression profile data of tomato suggested that the SlPP2Cs were specifically expressed in different tissues. The results of transcriptome sequencing showed that 24 SlPP2Cs were responsive to salt stress. These results will be helpful to further investigate the biological function of SlPP2Cs.
