Abstract <p>The effects of glioma development in the cingulate cortex on memory formation, storage, and retrieval were assessed at different times during the presentation of the platform detection skill in the Morris swim maze. Glioma development over two weeks did not alter the subsequent dynamics of spatial memory formation. However, when the animal developed the platform detection skill before glioma cell implantation, followed by cell implantation, its retrieval was impaired at two weeks of tumor growth. Thus, glioma development in the cingulate cortex disrupts the mechanisms for retrieving previously acquired skills but does not alter the processes of memory formation and retrieval upon presentation of a new experience or recall of a previously formed organismic experience. The obtained data are consistent with the concept of the role of the cingulate cortex in episodic memory and reveal changes in cognitive functions when cingulate cortex neurons are involved in local interactions with tumor cells.</p>
