Organic (Biodegradable) Waste Considering Russia’s Climate Agenda
摘要
To date, in Russia the predominant method of disposal of production and consumption waste, including organic solid municipal and industrial waste, as well as sewage sludge, is to place it in specially selected sites (landfills). The decomposition of this waste under the influence of factors of living and nonliving nature leads to the release of a number of greenhouse gases (biogas) into the atmosphere, primarily methane, the share of which among man-made methane emissions is approaching 40% and tends to increase. The current state policy in the field of waste management is aimed at both reducing the greenhouse gas emissions generated by waste and using waste to produce various useful products. This article provides data on the impact of waste on the development of the greenhouse effect and describes possible technologies, the use of which can provide significant economic and environmental effects.
