Abstract <p>Young Shiveluch Volcano (Russia, Kamchatka) produced the greatest (for the last 60 years) eruption on April 10, 2023 followed by activity in the area of the old Karan extrusive dome which was active during Holocene time. The volcanic activity was accompanied by high seismic activity, with numerous long-period, hybrid, and volcano-tectonic earthquakes being recorded. Families of earthquakes have been identified using cross correlation of signal waveforms. A high correlation coefficient for earthquakes in a family tells us that the seismic source is stable in location and properties over time. The parameters of the families suggested conclusions as to various mechanisms generating repeated earthquakes. The parameters of the earthquake families provide evidence both of the extrusion of domes and of activity in the region of magma chambers at depths of 20–26 km and 1–4 km.</p>
