Abstract <p>A list of provisions of the methodology for calculating the amount of damage caused to water bodies due to violation of water legislation has been compiled, requiring clarification in order to create a full-fledged effective mechanism for compensation for damage. Insufficiently regulated issues of determining some elements of calculating damage, which are most often the subject of dispute in court proceedings, are listed. Examples of ambiguous application of the norms of the methodology for calculating individual indicators by various participants in the process of compensation for damage to a water body are given. Conclusions are made on the need to streamline the procedures for monitoring wastewater discharge, calculating, and compensating for damage to a water body.</p>
