Abstract

To select points for isotope monitoring in groundwater of Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Adygea, measurements of 222Rn and 224Ra were carried out in tectonic fault zones. In the Akhtyrsky fault zone, the maximum concentrations of 222Rn (11.8 Bq/L) and 224Ra (0.19 Bq/L) were found in spring waters, and the 222Rn/224Ra ratio (121.00) was found in wells. Elevated 224Ra concentrations were present in waters close to mineralization zones. In the Republic of Adygea, 222Rn content in water varies from 0.21 to 6.95 Bq/L. The highest concentrations of 224Ra were found in springs in the south of the republic (up to 0.49 Bq/L). For isotope monitoring, springs near mud volcano areas and in fault zones can be considered suitable, where continuous measurement of alpha or gamma activity of waters can be organized, combined with daily sampling for monitoring radium isotopes.
