Abstract

A technological scheme for water purification in closed-loop water supply systems using flow-through water treatment with a plasma discharge is developed. It is experimentally proven that the use of a plasma discharge in a flow of cavitating liquid reduces the concentration of nitrites, nitrates, and ammonia accumulating in the water, and also helps reduce the risk of fish diseases due to the formation of reactive oxygen species such as ozone, hydroxyl radicals, and hydrogen peroxide. The observed fluctuations in dissolved oxygen concentration during water treatment lead to the conclusion that re-aeration can increase dissolved oxygen levels, which also has a beneficial effect on fish farming in closed-loop aquaculture systems.
