On the internal inconsistency of the Wess–Zumino model

Abstract
We prove that the supersymmetric Wess–Zumino model is internally inconsistent. Our proof relies on three key assumptions. First, the structure of the counterterms in the full theory is assumed to coincide with that in perturbation theory. Second, the metric is assumed to be positive, implying the absence of ghost states in the spectrum of the model. Third, the canonical commutation relations between generalized coordinates and momenta are assumed to hold in the renormalized theory. Our results demonstrate that ghost states are inevitably present in the spectrum of the Wess–Zumino model, thereby contradicting these initial assumptions.
