Abstract

Experimental data on the laws of electrophoresis of a colloidal silver solution in an aqueous dispersion medium and the parameters of metal particles deposited on a cathode have been obtained. No coagulation is found to occur during electrophoresis. The silver particle size increases at the cathode due to diffusion processes. As a result, the silver particles on the cathode surface have a significant thickness, which is far from a monolayer of atoms. The rate of Ag accumulation on the electrode decreases with increasing electrophoresis time. The formation of a coating on the electrode surface is a heterogeneous process consisting of a kinetic act. This act is the adsorption of colloidal silver particles and their diffusion growth. In the initial periods, silver particles are deposited on the cathode material (nickel) and, then, on the surface of silver precipitated earlier. The electrical conductivity of the colloidal solution and its other characteristics are measured.
