Sorption-Desorption Properties of Titanium Phosphate with Respect to Heavy Metal Cations

Abstract
The sorption and desorption behavior of divalent ions (Cu2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+) on amorphous titanium phosphate has been studied. The sorption/desorption equilibrium is shown to be largely determined by the solvated state of heavy metal cations, and selectivity series are constructed. The degree of desorption exceeds 99.9% in all cases regardless of the degree of saturation of the sorbent with metal cations. When the sorbent is used in many cycles, the efficiency of sorption/desorption processes decreases because of its dehydration due to sorbent hydrolysis, which is 2.6 × 10–3 mg g–1 h–1. The efficiency of sorption/desorption of the ions from multicomponent solutions is shown.
