Synthesis and Physicochemical Study of Heteroligand Cobalt(II) Complexes based on Fluorinated β-diketonates and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine

To expand the library of volatile cobalt(II) compounds, three new complexes Co(tmeda)(L)2 (tmeda = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine, L = pfpac (5,5,6,6,6-pentafluorohexane-2,4-dionato), hfbac (5,5,6,6,7,7,7-heptafluoroheptane-2,4-dionato), ofhac (3H,3H-octafluorohexane-2,4-dionato)) were synthesized and characterized. The crystal structures of the complexes with L = hfbac and ofhac were determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction (CCDC Nos. 2529755 and 2529754, respectively). For all compounds the melting temperatures and thermodynamic parameters were determined. A characteristic feature of the complex with L = pfpac is its retarded crystallization and glass-forming ability. Comparison with analogs revealed a nonlinear change in the thermal properties (volatility and melting point) of the Co(tmeda)(L)2 complexes upon growth of the perfluoroalkyl chain in the β-diketonate ligand L.
