Pseudecheneis likimroensis, a New Species of the Sisorid Catfish (Sisoridae) from the Chindwin Basin, Nagaland, India

A new species of sisorid catfish, Pseudecheneis likimroensis, is described from the Likimro River, a tributary of the Tizu River (Chindwin Basin), Nagaland, northeast India. The new species is diagnosed from its congeners by the following combination of characters: a deep body with depth at anus 17.6–19.3% standard length (SL), teeth on outer edge of lower tooth bands exposed when mouth closed, first dorsal fin pterygiophore with a bony spur, caudal peduncle depth 4.9–5.6% SL, caudal peduncle length 22.0–25.1% SL, predorsal length 35.8–37.1% SL, pectoral fin length 17.7–25.7% SL, tip of pectoral fin extending to first ray of pelvic-fin base, pelvic fin not reaching anal fin origin, 14 or 14½ branched pectoral-fin rays, 8½ branched anal-fin rays, 54–81 plicae on ventral surface of first pelvic ray, 10–12 gill rakers on first branchial arch and 16 caudal vertebrae. Pseudecheneis likimroensis is the sixth species of the genus known from the Chindwin-Irrawaddy drainage.
