Abstract <p><i>Chela kaladanensis</i>, a new species of cyprinid fish, is described from the Kaladan River of Mizoram, northeastern India. The species is distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: lateral line complete with 33–34 scales, 22–24 predorsal scales, 10–12 prepelvic scales, 16 circumpeduncular scales, 16 pre-caudal vertebrae, fifth ceratobranchial with 5, 3, 1 tooth, and premaxillae not in contact at symphysis.</p>
