Abstract <p>Structures of six new ionic compounds featuring diprotonated 1,2-bis(pyridyl)ethane and 1,2-bis(pyridyl) ethylene cations and Br<sup>–</sup>, Br<sub>3</sub><sup>–</sup>, Cl<sup>–</sup>, <InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">$\text{ICl}_{2}^{-}$</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> counterions have been established for the first time by X-ray diffraction structural analysis. Quantum chemical computations were employed to study intermolecular interactions in the compounds.</p>
