Abstract <p>A systematic study has been carried out of the conditions for obtaining stable aqueous dispersions of fullerene C<sub>60</sub> by ultrasonic treatment in solutions of dermatologically mild nonionic surfactants. The obtained dispersions were used to modify gels based on lightly crosslinked polyacrylic acid. A study of the rheological properties of the gels has shown that the addition of C<sub>60</sub> reduces the viscosity and yield stress of the gels by a factor of 1.7. The electrical conductivity of the gel systems increased by 2.2–2.5 times compared to the base gel. It has been found that the modified gels provide a more intense release of diclofenac sodium during electrophoresis. In addition, the introduction of fullerene enhances the antioxidant activity of the gel by 30%.</p>
