Abstract <p>A new diagnosis of the genus <i>Pachnephoptrus</i> Reitter, 1892, based on new characters, is given. The genus most closely related to it within the tribe Adoxini Baly, 1863 is <i>Lepinaria</i> Medvedev, 1998. New synonymy is established: <i>Lepinaria</i> Medvedev, 1998 (= <i>Pseudolepis</i> Medvedev et Zoia, 2001, <b>syn. n.).</b> A key to the species and a catalogue of described species of <i>Pachnephoptrus</i> are given. A new species, <i>Pachnephoptrus storozhenkoi</i> <b>sp. n.,</b> is described from India (Himachal Pradesh). This is the first apterous species described in the genus <i>Pachnephoptrus</i>.</p>
