Abstract <p>Terahertz biophotonics opens up significant prospects for various biomedical applications. In this paper, we propose a scheme of a compact terahertz device, in which the effect of generation and amplification of terahertz radiation is achieved through the interaction of an electron beam, moving in a vacuum, with an electromagnetic wave of a corrugated waveguide. It is shown that both the generation and amplification mode and the detection mode of terahertz waves are possible in the considered device scheme.</p>
