Abstract <p>The article reports on the organization, conduct, and main results obtained during expedition 97 of the R/V <i>Akademik Mstislav Keldysh</i> to the Kara Sea on Janury 9–June 10, 2024. The purpose of the expedition was to study the state of underwater radioactive waste disposal and ecology in the bays of Novaya Zemlya and the Novaya Zemlya Depression. In addition to traditional oceanographic instruments, underwater towed and remotely operated vehicles equipped with video, sonar, and gamma-ray spectrometry equipment were used in the research. Work was carried out on board the vessel and in shallow water from the ship’s launch. Benthos and bottom sediment samples were taken, as well as hydrological measurements. For the first time, burials of a number of objects have been confirmed, as well as detailed information about known objects using stereo imaging was obtained.</p>
