<p>This study investigates how interpersonal communication competence (ICC) relates to second language (L2) willingness to communicate (WTC) through the parallel mediating roles of L2 speaking self-efficacy (SSE) and intercultural interaction engagement (IIE) among learners of Turkish as a foreign language. Using data from 486 international students enrolled in Turkish language programs at universities in Türkiye, the hypothesized model was tested via structural equation modeling. The results revealed that ICC was positively associated with WTC both directly and indirectly. Specifically, SSE and IIE each carried a significant indirect association between ICC and WTC, supporting a partial-mediation pattern. Among the proximal predictors, SSE showed the strongest direct association with WTC, followed by IIE, while ICC retained a smaller but significant direct association. The model explained 73.7% of the variance in WTC. These findings highlight the importance of target-language-specific efficacy beliefs and intercultural motivation in linking general communication competence to L2 communicative intent.</p>
