Emotional intelligence in Indonesian language textbooks in primary school: positive discourse analysis
摘要
This study explores the incorporation of emotional intelligence (EI) in Indonesian language and literature textbooks for upper primary school students. By analyzing textbooks published by the Curriculum, Research, and Book Development Center, the research applies Positive Discourse Analysis (PDA) to examine how EI is conveyed through reading materials. The study identifies several EI dimensions embedded in stories focused on themes such as the environment, bullying, equality, friendship, and achievement. These elements are communicated using various discursive strategies, including linguistic features like parallelism, metaphors, religious discourse, and the use of comparative and superlative forms. The findings demonstrate the Indonesian government’s commitment to promoting peace and harmony, both at the individual and societal levels, aligning with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through language and literature education. The study underscores the role of textbooks in shaping students’ EI and fostering positive social values.
