Harnessing drone technology for regional revitalization: public perceptions and economic implications in Taiwan
摘要
This study examines public perceptions of drone technology and its implications for regional revitalization in Yilan County, Taiwan. Using a structured questionnaire survey (n = 457), the study explores levels of awareness, perceived application domains, acceptance factors, and public concerns related to drone use. The results indicate that while public awareness of drone technology is high, acceptance is shaped by a combination of perceived benefits, trust-related factors, and concerns regarding safety, privacy, and regulatory uncertainty. Empirical analyses reveal that these concerns constitute significant barriers to broader public acceptance, particularly across different demographic groups. The findings suggest that the effective integration of drone technology into regional revitalization strategies requires not only technological readiness but also transparent governance, regulatory clarity, and targeted public engagement. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the importance of socially informed approaches to emerging technologies in place-based development contexts.
