摘要

Schools are more than just places where individuals acquire knowledge; they are structures where the foundations of social peace and solidarity are laid. However, current education systems pave the way for the reproduction of social inequalities and are notable for their limited capacity to prevent violent incidents. In this context, the relevant literature points to the need to develop comprehensive policies aimed at reducing social inequalities and violence through education. With this rationale, this study is a mixed-methods research that aims to examine the mediating role of education in the connection between social inequality and violence in a multidimensional way. The research was conducted using a mixed exploratory sequential design that included a scale development phase. In the qualitative phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with teachers selected through purposive sampling, and the data obtained were analyzed through themes, categories, and codes. Based on these analyses, the quantitative phase was initiated, and a comprehensive measurement tool was developed. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were applied during the scale development process, and the validity of the theoretical structure and the high internal consistency reliability of the scale were proven. In the final stage, the measurement tool was applied to teachers identified with an appropriate sample size. The research findings reveal that social inequalities increase social violence by limiting access to educational opportunities. On the other hand, education stands out as a central tool in reducing inequalities and preventing violence at the individual and societal levels. The study revealed that education plays a mediating role in the connection between social inequality and violence. On the other hand, it was determined that supporting disadvantaged groups, developing egalitarian education policies, and increasing psycho-social support services are of critical importance in terms of strengthening social peace and ensuring sustainable development. In addition, it was emphasized that education systems need to be transformed into a fair, inclusive, and effective structure.
