<p>This research investigates the contributions of the EU’s defense colleges and identify opportunities for moving forward the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP). To do so, we analyzed the evolution of the CSDP based on existing literature. Subsequently, the study focused on the European Security and Defense College (ESDC). The data included contributions from senior experts, heads of mission and other stakeholders involved in the CSDP missions and operations. The data provided an understanding of the gaps at the ESDC, and the practices implemented in missions and operations. Based on these findings, we developed an empirical model. To gain a comprehensive perspective, we also conducted a comparative analysis with the NATO Defense College. Our findings show the need of prioritizing emerging topics, such as cyber and space. The study highlights the importance of disseminating knowledge generated by the ESDC and CSDP to Professional Military Education across the 27 Member States.</p>
