Reducing audit expectations gap in listed firms of palestine: the role of audit committees
摘要
This study explores the role of audit committees in reducing the AEG audit expectation gap from the perspective of auditors in Palestine. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the importance of fairness, performance, and standards gaps in a special context to reduce the expectations gap in business situations in companies listed on the Palestine Stock Exchange. This study used the design of data collection from auditors practicing the profession of auditing. A total of 326 questionnaires for auditors were included in the study sample that was given to them. The descriptive statistics and standard deviations were extracted, and the researcher used the t-test approach for the means from which the sample was taken and the "Cronbach Alpha" reliability coefficient using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The results indicate that the supervision of audit committees over the work of internal and external auditors, oversight of financial reporting processes, and strengthening of internal control systems, and their reduction of the risks of fraud contributed to reducing the audit expectation gap. These results indicate that there is an audit expectation gap among listed Palestinian enterprises, highlighting the necessity for audit committee monitoring to address this issue. Effective supervision of internal and external audit functions, financial reporting processes, internal control systems, and fraud risk assessment improves audit transparency and financial reporting credibility. By emphasizing audit committee effectiveness as a fundamental governance instrument, the results have policy implications for regulators and audit practitioners. The audit expectation gap may also assist in discovering misconceptions between auditors, regulators, and financial statement users and inform governance and regulatory policies that increase audit quality and stakeholder confidence. This study provides useful recommendations to the audit committees on how to follow the procedures necessary for the proper control of the internal and external auditors to audit honesty and credibility. This paper contributes to the relevant literature in that it highlights the significant variation in auditing standards among listed companies in Palestine. The study offers valuable insights for corporate managers, who are less inclined than board members to criticize the way auditors currently carry out their duties and to identify areas where auditing standards need to be modified.
