<p>This study aims to explore the role of meaning-making in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Korean society from a cultural sociological perspective. The epidemiological investigation information management system is used to show the meaning struggles among competing narratives of carrier groups and the social process of cultural trauma. An argument presented in this paper is that the epidemiological investigation information management system in Korean society has been formulated and operated to firmly restore a sense of cultural security and heal the traumatic wounds endured by citizens who came to question the legitimacy, validity, and direction of Korean society during the epidemic outbreak. This study also provides evidence for an open-ended social process of cultural trauma that transformed from a narrative of exclusion and discrimination into that of the expansion of solidarity and cooperation in Korean society, triggering civil repair.</p>
