摘要

This paper examines the impact of natural hazard events on educational outcomes and resilience of education systems, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. The frequency and severity of disasters and extreme events are increasing due to climate change, resulting in disruptions to education services. The paper reviews existing literature on the subject, and finds that natural hazard events such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and tropical storms have a negative impact on education outcomes. The duration and channels through which these impacts occur are not yet fully understood, but there is evidence of short-term effects on both schooling and learning outcomes, which can persist over time. The paper also investigates the resilience of education systems in the face of such shocks.
