<p>Crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) is an evolving theory and process, often applied as a one-off workstream to infrastructure projects already well underway. We discuss the literature and professional practise on key temporal dimensions and imperatives of CPTED, showing CPTED thinking is needed <i>early, regularly and differs</i> at all stages in project planning, development, construction, and in-service life as an <i>ongoing scientific process</i>. We present nine reasons why ‘time’/‘timing’ is very important plus a practical process and methodology comprising seven ‘stages’ for applying different CPTED actions over the lifecycle of infrastructure projects. This methodology is bridged to current, sound, and project delivery methodologies of infrastructure design and construction professions, so as to improve the embodiment and success of CPTED and enhance the sustainability, liveability, and resilience of cities.</p>

摘要

Crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) is an evolving theory and process, often applied as a one-off workstream to infrastructure projects already well underway. We discuss the literature and professional practise on key temporal dimensions and imperatives of CPTED, showing CPTED thinking is needed early, regularly and differs at all stages in project planning, development, construction, and in-service life as an ongoing scientific process.
