<p>When Freud approaches the figure of the non-European, he contradicts his assertion that psychoanalysis itself has no worldview, for he adopts the colonialist ideology of rendering the colonized “savage” in his anthropology. Lazali interrogates Freud’s conception of the “savage” as the Other to <i>Psyché</i> to highlight how this figure imports structures of belief supposedly antithetical to the scientific armature of Freudian psychoanalysis into its very core. In so doing, Lazali opens up psychoanalysis as a method to critique colonialist ideology itself.</p>
