Voice treatment through music: The case of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys
摘要
Brian Wilson is a founding member of the Beach Boys. From his autobiography and a biopic, we will show how this artist seeks to counter the multiplicity of harmful hallucinatory voices. This will allow us to clarify what the voice is from a psychoanalytic point of view by drawing on the Freudian case of President Schreber as well as an excerpt from a film that shows Brian Wilson’s hypersensitivity to sound. It is through the composition of a music based on harmony that he tries to cover the cacophony of voices and soften the violence of background noise.
