My tooth fairy index
摘要
Reflecting on past and present inflation, I compare my childhood experience of 1970’s hyperinflation to post-Covid price surges. Pandemic-era inflation has been temporary, driven by supply shocks, consumer behavior, and government stimulus. Also drawing from past experiences, the Fed’s response to Covid-era inflation was swift. I use a “Tooth Fairy Index” to illustrate inflation’s long-term effects and explore how Covid may shape Generation Alpha’s career choices, particularly in research, healthcare, and mental health.
