Following Freud’s (1920) comment on the possibility of accepting or dismissing the death drive based on the subjectivity of the reader, arguments are presented from those of us who reject the supposed death drive, influenced by the consideration, among other things, of the subjective causes that may have led Freud to conceptualize it. In doing so, references are made to this line of thought as discussed by Ferenczi, and I add some personal (subjective, of course) reflections.
