<p>The aim of this study was to compare the coaches-athletes agreement on perception of training exertion in original (S1) and novel (S2) session rating of perceived exertion (sRPE) scales. The S2 was implemented as an alternative scale with the reduced number of the ratings (3–10) and the comprehensive description regarding physical, technical and mental qualities. Before each training session, two coaches discussed the volume, intensity and tactical/technical complexity of the training session and suggested their sRPE. Afterwards, approximately 30–45&#xa0;min after the session, the twelve professional volleyball players evaluated their sRPE. In total, 48 training sessions were taken into the statistical analysis and multiple Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) calculations were introduced to compare the results. ICC estimates and their 95% confidence intervals were primarily based on session-level mean values and calculated using a mean-rating (k = 2), absolute agreement, 2-way mixed-effects model. The overall coaches-athletes agreement was good for S2 (0.770) and moderate for S1 (0.649). Also, the interpersonal differences in sRPE between the players of the same volleyball positions were lower for S2. The results of this study suggest that a novel sRPE scale that was introduced in this study was effective in assesing the coaches-athletes agreement in relation to perceived training exertion.</p>
