Targeting the outer membrane porin OprF restores carbapenem efficacy during experimental sepsis caused by NDM-1-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa
摘要
Carbapenem resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa may depend on both carbapenemase production and outer membrane porin composition. Disruption of the major porin OprF altered motility and secretion system gene expression without reducing virulence, and restored imipenem efficacy in an NDM-1–producing strain in a murine sepsis model. To the best of our knowledge, a dual role of inhibition of pathogenicity and overcoming antibiotic resistance by disrupting a membrane protein, is novel.
