Study on the improvement of freeze resistance of historical architectural bricks by organo silicon waterproofing agent

In the long-term natural environment, the durability of historical building bricks is reduced due to the influence of acid and alkali erosion. In this paper, the silicone waterproofing agent of 0%, 1%, 2% and 3% concentration was infiltrated into the old brick by vacuum preloading, and the influence of different concentrations of waterproofing agent on the acid and alkali resistance of the brick was studied. The durability of improved brick was analyzed by acid-alkali erosion test water absorption test and compressive strength test and its microstructure was observed by scanning electron microscope. The results show that silicone waterproofing agent can change the internal microstructure of bricks, reduce internal pores, increase the compactness between skeleton particles, and the formed waterproofing membrane can improve the hydrophobic characteristics of surface tension, thus effectively improving the water resistance, mechanical properties and durability of bricks. 3% silicone waterproofing agent can effectively resist capillary water and acid and alkali damage. The research results provide a new idea for the restoration of ancient buildings in Central Plains.
