Lycium L. flavonoids: extraction, purification, signal transduction pathways, and interactions with intestinal microbiota

Flavonoids are major bioactive constituents of Lycium L. with diverse pharmacological activities. This review summarizes recent advances in the extraction, characterization, and biological functions of Lycium flavonoids (LyFs). Evidence indicates that LyFs exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects via pathways such as NF-κB and Keap1–Nrf2/ARE. Notably, LyFs act as functional prebiotics by modulating gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acid production, supporting intestinal and metabolic health.
