摘要
Born in Paisley, near Glasgow, John Menzies Campbell rose to be one of the world's greatest experts on dental history. He collected many items connected with dentistry, including equipment, books, paintings and pamphlets. His seismic knowledge of the history of dentistry was highly regarded throughout the world. His writings and lectures were lauded by both lay and professional audiences. Eventually, his collections were presented to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and his library of books to the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In return, the latter awarded him with its first honorary FDS and established a three-yearly Menzies Campbell lectureship.
