Cultural evolution and societal transformation in the Neolithic middle Yangtze River valley of China
摘要
This paper traces the transition from Daxi-Hougang cultural interactions to a tripartite cultural landscape, culminating in the consolidation of the Qujialing culture. Endogenous development centered on rice agriculture fostered the formation of settled communities. Population growth stimulated the emergence of fortified settlements, social stratification, and specialized religious roles, thereby strengthening regional integration. This internal transformation laid the groundwork for its incorporation into the broader Huaxia cultural sphere.
