<p><i>Gentiana gaurii</i> sp.<i> nov.</i> is described from Indian Western Himalayan region (Chamoli district). It is morphologically similar to <i>G. ornata</i>, <i>G. lawrencei</i>, and <i>G. hexaphylla</i> from which differ by both vegetative and sexual characters. A molecular study using the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacers (nrITS) support the recognition of the new species. A diagnosis, detailed taxonomic description, original photos and drawings, ecological notes, and the conservation status of the new species are provided.</p>
