<p>India’s construction sector, vital to the economy with an 8% GDP contribution, lags in drone adoption, with only 30% of firms utilizing drones compared to 60% in developed markets, constrained by fragmented supply chains, high costs, and limited technological readiness. This study employs ordinal logistic regression on a survey of 62 construction professionals, purposively sampled from March to May 2024, to identify strategic factors influencing drone adoption. A pilot-tested survey instrument (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.70, composite reliability = 0.80–0.89) revealed 14 significant predictors (<i>p</i> ≤ 0.05): cost of procurement (odds ratio: 0.522, <i>p</i> = 0.040), cost of operation and maintenance (odds ratio: 0.492, <i>p</i> = 0.035), cost savings (odds ratio: 1.579, <i>p</i> = 0.046), dedicated budget (odds ratio: 1.665, <i>p</i> = 0.047), equipment availability (odds ratio: 1.859, <i>p</i> = 0.044), equipment quality (odds ratio: 0.241, <i>p</i> = 0.006), air space restrictions (odds ratio: 0.507, <i>p</i> = 0.037), training (odds ratio: 2.094, <i>p</i> = 0.035), human resources (odds ratio: 1.733, <i>p</i> = 0.046), government regulations (odds ratio: 0.487, <i>p</i> = 0.038), company acceptability (odds ratio: 0.422, <i>p</i> = 0.038), stocktaking and monitoring (odds ratio: 1.636, <i>p</i> = 0.047), inaccessible data collection (odds ratio: 2.143, <i>p</i> = 0.030), and data accuracy (odds ratio: 1.934, <i>p</i> = 0.043). These findings highlight economic, operational, social-legal, and construction-specific drivers and barriers, particularly for SMEs. The study extends the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework with India-specific factors, integrating the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovation Theory (IDT) for a Global South perspective. Preliminary recommendations include cost-effective drone solutions, training programs, and regulatory awareness campaigns to enhance adoption, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 9 for improved efficiency and safety in India’s construction industry.</p>
