摘要

Aims

The aim of this study is to assess whether the diabetes screening guidelines for individuals aged 40 and above in the Czech Republic with high-risk of diabetes are being implemented in clinical practice.

Methods

Data from EHIS (European Health Interview Survey) from 2014 in the Czech Republic on the representative sample of 6737 participants were analyzed, the survey is a population health study with a stratified, cross-sectional, random sampling design. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, and anamnestic data were collected through interviewer-administered questionnaires. Only participants of age ≥ 40 and those who did not suffer from diabetes mellitus (DM) were involved into the analysis.

Results

A total of 4106 participants were enrolled in the study (40% men, 60% women). Of those, 63.2% stated they were tested for glucose levels within the past 12 months, participants with obesity were tested less frequently than participants with hypertension and hyperlipidemia over the past 12 months (69.2% for obesity, 78.7% for hypertension, and 90,6% for hyperlipidemia).

Conclusion

Glucose testing was performed at least once every 3 years for 91% of respondents, in 63.2% in the last 12 months. However, almost one third of obese or overweight people have not been screened in the last 12 months as is recommended.
