<p>A novel class of reactive disperse dyes <b>D1</b>, <b>D2</b>, <b>D3</b> containing epoxy reactive group have been successfully designed and synthesized. The structures of <b>D1</b>, <b>D2</b>, <b>D3</b> were characterized and verified by <sup>1</sup>H NMR and IR spectra. In order to satisfy the requirements of green production and sustainable development, the novel reactive dyes dyeing the cotton fabrics in waterless D5 medium were investigated. The system parameters, including time, dye concentration and temperature, were investigated. At 80 min, the maximum K/S values were observed when the cotton fabrics were dyed with reactive disperse dyes <b>D1</b>, <b>D2</b>, <b>D3</b> respectively after reduction and soaping clearing, which suggested 80 min as the optimum time for dyeing cotton fabrics. When the concentration was 2% o.w.f, the maximum K/S values were observed, which showed 2% o.w.f as the optimum concentration for dyeing cotton fabrics. Dyeing at 130 ℃, the maximum K/S values were observed, which showed 130 ℃ as the optimum temperature for dyeing cotton fabrics. The fastness experimental results indicated that acceptable wash fastness and rub grades at 4–5 were acquired, the light fastness grades were 4. The satisfactory fastness data results may be ascribed to the formation strong covalent bond between cotton fabrics and dyes.</p>
