摘要

Background

Punica granutam, or Pomegranate, is a natural compound that can have anti-tumor effects on many cancers due to its useful active ingredient.

Purpose

To collect the results of published studies related to the effectiveness of the anti-tumor properties of pomegranate extract on various breast cancer cell lines from 2010 to 2024.

Methods

Publications were searched based on appropriate keywords and phrases, following the PRISMA checklist, in various databases such as PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science from 2010 to 2024, as of May 25.

Results

A total of 523 publications were collected. Among these, only 15 were suitable for the study. Most of the results o indicated that pomegranate extract can inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells through different cellular and molecular mechanisms.

Conclusion

In general, it seems that pomegranate extract can have antitumor properties on breast cancer. Therefore, using pomegranate extract and its derivatives can be recommended alone or with other therapeutic agents. More investigations are needed to validate this hypothesis.
