摘要

This study explores the impact of restoration initiatives on the sustainability of the Red Sea coast and the quality of life of its inhabitants, with a focus on community participation in the Red Sea Global Organization’s (RSGO) regeneration efforts. It seeks to understand the motivations driving engagement, the challenges faced during implementation, and strategies to overcome barriers and enhance involvement. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research draws on qualitative interviews with RSGO sustainability specialists and quantitative survey data from 165 residents of Red Sea Global sites. Analysis of community awareness, motivations, and obstacles was conducted using descriptive and inferential methods, while thematic analysis revealed key qualitative insights. Initiatives such as beach cleanups, afforestation, and cultural revitalization demonstrate RSGO’s integration of environmental, social, and economic priorities into its sustainability agenda. The findings highlight that cultural values, environmental stewardship, and a sense of ownership are central to community participation. At the same time, language difficulties, skill mismatches, and volunteer shortages are significant barriers. To address these constraints, the study recommends strengthening communication, tailoring initiatives to community needs, and fostering innovative partnerships, alongside promoting transparency, capacity building, and stakeholder collaboration. Effective communication and empowerment are emphasized as crucial for advancing regenerative tourism and sustainable coastal development. Ultimately, the research underscores the potential of regenerative tourism to restore ecosystems, support inclusive community engagement, and enhance long-term quality of life in the Red Sea region, offering practical guidance for RSGO and similar organizations seeking to link sustainability with social and economic resilience.
