Purpose <p>This study aims to evaluate the significance of scapula anthropometric variables using three-dimensional computed tomography images for improved identification in radio-forensic medical research.</p> Method <p>The study includes anthropometric measurements of the right and left scapula taken from CT thorax images of 200 subjects aged 20–70&#xa0;years from the West Gujarat population. Statistical analysis was performed to assess whether these parameters can be effective for scapula dimensions in determining the sex and age of unidentified bone.</p> Results <p>A significant difference was observed in all measured anthropometric indices between the sexes (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001). Among the measurements a gender classification is presented by the descriptive functional analysis, which demonstrates an accuracy of 97.5%. However, the technique is less accurate for age group classification, achieving an overall accuracy of 52.5%.</p> Conclusion <p>A CT scan can be a very useful tool for precisely measuring the 3D characteristics of the scapula and determining sexual dimorphism. However, it is less reliable for accurately predicting age groups.</p>

摘要

Purpose

This study aims to evaluate the significance of scapula anthropometric variables using three-dimensional computed tomography images for improved identification in radio-forensic medical research.

Method

The study includes anthropometric measurements of the right and left scapula taken from CT thorax images of 200 subjects aged 20–70 years from the West Gujarat population.
