Review on the potential of waste materials in developing green ultra-high performance concrete for rehabilitation applications
摘要
Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is a future concrete product which exhibit excellent rheology properties as well as strength and durability usually consist of high content of cement (800–1300 kg/m3) which definitely will contribute to large amount of CO2 emission in future as current CO2 emission from concrete industries is 10% from total CO2 emission to the environment worldwide. Moreover, UHPC adopts special curing treatment such as heat curing which require high energy consumption (consume 12–15% of the total industrial energy). Therefore, there is an urgent need to replace some or all cement in concrete and to find other curing method to substantially reduce the CO2 emission and energy consumption without jeopardize their mechanical and durability performance. These have motivated abundant of studies in investigating the utilization of waste material to replace the cement or aggregate or both in UHPC manufacturing for precast application but its application in rehabilitation work especially for cast on site overlay on existing structure, is challenging due to requirement for normal curing technique and very low shrinkage crack. This paper aims to help researchers to expand the awareness of green UHPC in rehabilitation works by discussing on the impact of waste material on the performance of green UHPC.
