Erwachsene Frühgeborene
摘要
Only for the past 35 years has neonatology been able to successfully treat preterm infants weighing less than 1500 g. Therefore, in the near future, an increasing number of survivors of extreme prematurity will seek general medical advice, presenting with previously unknown medical histories.
ObjectivesWhat is currently known about the risk profile of adults born preterm (ABP)? What are the health care needs of this particular patient group?
Materials and methodsEvaluation of longitudinal and registry studies. Consideration of empirical surveys involving affected individuals. Critical discussion of the current evidence.
ResultsA “syndrome” of pulmonary, cardiorenal metabolic, sensorineural cognitive, and socioemotional risks is emerging that encompasses both a tendency toward accelerated aging and a propensity for social withdrawal. While coping strategies vary greatly, many affected individuals seek prevention and treatment options tailored to their history of prematurity.
ConclusionsBased on current evidence, there is no doubt about the long-term consequences of extremely preterm birth. Given the diversity of late effects, general practice plays a crucial coordinating role in the holistic care of affected patients.
