The experience of higher education teachers in India towards professional development

Internationally, there have been considerable efforts to improve the quality of teaching in higher education over the last 25 years. In addition to national policy frameworks there has been an investment in provision of professional development for higher education teachers. In India the National Education Policy emphasises provision of professional development and in response there has been are launch of the Malaviya MissionTeacherTraining Programme. (Reviewer-3) The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes Professional Development (PD) as a vital factor in improving India's higher education system. To align with this goal, the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programmehas been relaunched with an updated structure focused on enhancing the skills of teachers and faculty through targeted training. This study explores the views of university teachers who took part in Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, focusing on its impact on their professional development and the program's overall effectiveness. An exploratory design with a survey methodology was employed, involving 83 teachers of central universities of North East India Data were collected through interviews and online focus group discussions. Participants reported that the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Program training offered by various Malaviya Mission Teacher Training centres was highly beneficial, enabling them to acquire relevant knowledge, reflect. Critically, rethink educational concepts, and develop skills for practical classroom use withsome drawbacks.
