Enhancing Education Through the Metaverse: Perspectives from Türkiye
摘要
The research examines the transformative potential of metaverse technologies in Turkish education and explores how Türkiye is positioning itself to integrate immersive technologies into its educational system through a qualitative doctrinal analysis of legal and policy frameworks, an examination of current implementations, and a discussion of emerging challenges. The findings reveal significant governmental support through strategic initiatives and promising early implementations across various educational levels, exemplified by pilot projects and university-level metaverse initiatives. The research highlights Türkiye’s advantageous position in technology adoption, supported by its robust gaming sector and successful start-up ecosystem. However, the research also identifies critical challenges, including infrastructure requirements, financial constraints, and the need for comprehensive regulatory frameworks for security and privacy. Of particular concern is the potential for these technologies to exacerbate existing educational disparities, especially given Türkiye’s pronounced urban-rural educational divide. While Türkiye demonstrates notable enthusiasm and institutional commitment to metaverse technologies, realizing their educational potential will require careful attention to equity, accessibility, and security considerations. This study contributes to understanding both the opportunities and challenges of implementing metaverse technologies in educational contexts, particularly within developing economies, while also adapting methodological approaches for researching emerging digital technologies.
